Long Thread Podcast: Linda Cortright

In 2004, Linda Cortright began publishing Wild Fibers, a magazine that tells the stories of natural fibers from seemingly ordinary (mohair) to jaw-droppingly astonishing (seal wool). Often called the National Geographic of the fiber world, Linda’s magazine reports stories from remote, sometimes difficult locations—Antarctica and Afghanistan, to name a few.

Grounded by the pandemic, Linda found time for a bigger project: a photo book that explores animal fibers on 6 continents. We talked about her new book, The Eye of Fiber, and she shared some of the stories that didn't make it into the pages, stories about shepherds and artisans whose everyday livelihood is intertwined with their fiber-producing animals.

Linda can’t wait to put her passport back into service, planning 6 international fiber tours over the next year.
